Obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI)>30.  Morbid obesity is a BMI > 40. Overweight is a BMI > 25.  In the overweight category, a person's risk of disease increases.  In the obese category, a person's risk of death increases.  Obesity is quickly becoming the leading cause of health problems.
